The Global Fairness Initiative (GFI) is currently seeking interns to join the small GFI team. GFI projects span the globe and promote economic growth models and policies that work to expand opportunities, create employment and promote sustainable practices. While we work on a wide range of subjects, we emphasize global issues affecting farmers, factory workers, and poor producers.
We have three internship opportunities available: Communications Intern, IT Intern, and Management Intern. Details on each are listed below. Start dates are flexible. The positions are unpaid.

The Intern will report to the Program Officer and Executive Director and will be responsible for developing and implementing a communications strategy for GFI and its projects. GFI’s philosophy is to maximize the internship experience by allowing individuals to set personal goals and take on increasing responsibility as they become familiar with the organization.
Key objectives:
- Raise the profile of the Global Fairness Initiative and its projects by disseminating key messages to the appropriate audiences
- Produce compelling and inspiring materials
Duties:
- Draft press releases and liaise with journalists
- Develop communications and fundraising materials
- Maintain website including regularly updating content, posting relevant news stories and enhancing the site to meet changing needs
- Produce a quarterly newsletter to update the board, donors and interested parties
- Write and edit reports and project summaries
Experience and skills:
- Journalistic experience
- Excellent written and verbal skills in English including ability to edit / proofread
- Self-motivated and creative with the ability to work as part of a team and on individual initiatives
- Good working knowledge of standard Microsoft Office software (e.g. Outlootk)
- Experience working with the media, in the non-profit sector, and/or editing websites and developing online content would be a bonus
- Fluency in Spanish would be an additional asset

GFI’s philosophy is to maximize the internship experience by allowing individuals to set personal goals and take on increasing responsibility as they become familiar with the organization.
Key objectives:
- Raise the profile of GFI’s website as a resource and tool for other development-focused professionals and organizations
- Develop a user-friendly database of individual and organizational GFI contacts and potential donors
Duties:
- Update and customize website
- Create multimedia resources for the website
- Develop, design and customize a database for contacts/potential donors and media
Skills:
- Experience developing a database
- Experience developing, implementing and updating web sites
- Positive attitude, passionate and enthusiastic
- Self-motivated and independent
- Relevant languages: HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript, flash
- Relevant programs: Dreamweaver, FTP, Web Servers (Apache, IIs), Photoshop, Illustrator, Video Editing software, Wordpress & other blog software

- Identify fundraising opportunities and assist in grant writing
- Follow relevant news stories and events in Congress
